Communicating Online: Business Online Communication Platforms

Hello, classmate! Welcome back to my blog.

For this assignment, we are to study a business' current online communications, and assess whether or not they're clear and effective. I've decided to study the website of my current employer, WDAV- a classical public radio station located on the Davidson College campus in North Carolina. Their website is here and our Facebook site is here.  Immediately on the official website, we see the scrolling text as well as the streaming music player in the top left hand corner which puts music information right at eyesight of the viewer. The quick link boxes in the center represent the most popular pages for which visitors search: donations, podcasts, programs, and WDAV By Request submissions. On the left hand side there's a quick menu of links, including our exhaustive list of programs, our community calendar and sponsored events, our blog, and our social media accounts. Below our insignia are links to station information, employment opportunities, and our FCC file, all which we are legally required to display openly as we're a public entity. All the links easily accessed on the main page are either the pages most visited, or information the station is required to display.

The website is clean and visually appealing, with an appeasing scroll updating visitors on what is currently playing, with muted colors that allow the highlighted items (in red) stand out. The streaming player in the top left corner is also very appealing, with volume controls and purchase links built right in, and out of the way of the regular information. The website clearly displays that the business is a classical music radio station that is publicly funded, heavily involved in the local community, and a producer of original content.

"See" you all next week!
